The Ultimate Thelonious

Robin D.G. Kelley, my old professor from college has a new book out on Thelonious Monk! Man, D.G. was a cool professor. I remember I was taking his Jazz class and he invited us to his lovely NY apartment for dinner (he prepared the meal himself). That night, I told him that I acknowledged him in a poetry chapbook that I had self-published. "To Professor Kelley, who finally gave me a role model who doesn't wear a dangling chain," it said. To which D.G. replied, "Thanks! But I guess you don't know about the platinum chains I got in my room..." And he bought my rag-tag poetry book. Cool guy...
